Publishing Research Software with Zenodo and Conda

June 24 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Speaker: Daniel Bankmann (TU Berlin)

Abstract: Have you ever been in the situation, that you were not able to run research code, probably already a few years old? Or, did you try to reproduce results of an article with supplementary software and failed because of undocumented updates in the research code? Then the tools we present in this seminar may be interesting for you. We want to revisit tools that can be used for publishing research software in the context of reproducible research. In the last semester [1] we talked about how Conda can be used to collaborate on research software. This time, we will investigate how Conda packages can be built such that we can forward arbitrary research software to colleagues that hopefully works out of the box. To this end, we will follow the necessary steps for building such a package for a simple Python toolbox. Also, it is very helpful if in publications we can link to the exact state of research software, that was used for generating results and examples. We present the web service Zenodo [2], that helps accomplishing that.
