Since 2012, the German SIAM Student Chapters meet each year for an annual meeting. This year, the symposium took place in Trier and was organized by the local SIAM chapter. Previous meetings have been in Trier (2012), Heidelberg (2013), and Magdeburg (2014). Besides members from the chapters of Aachen, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Magdeburg, Prag, and Trier, Philipp Schulze and Benjamin Unger represented the Berlin GAMM/SIAM chapter.
The workshop started on August 26 with a welcome reception. The scientific program on Thursday and Friday consisted of 16 talks with topics ranging from modeling, optimization, error analysis, and GPU computing. Our representatives had talked about energy-based modeling (Philipp Schulze) and data-driven model reduction (Benjamin Unger).
The social program for the 36 participants included a guided city tour with a quiz and long discussions over common dinner in local restaurants and bars. The next symposium is planned for the next year in Hamburg, which we plan to attend with a larger number of chapter members. To conclude we would like to thank the Trier SIAM student chapter for the great organization.
