In January 2015, we decided to form a SIAM student chapter at TU Berlin. After some discussions with our advisor, we planned to start a joint GAMM/SIAM student chapter. Unfortunately, the international association of applied mathematics and mechanics (GAMM), had no student chapters at this time.
Upon request of the vice-president of GAMM, we drafted a set of rules for GAMM student chapters. A preliminary version was approved by the GAMM executive board at the GAMM annual meeting in Lecce. After several revisions, we started to form the joint GAMM/SIAM chapter at TU Berlin together with students from the Weierstrass Institute of Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS).
We planned to have a social meeting for the kick-off such that the members of the chapter have to chance to get to know each other. The nice summer in Berlin and the close to the TU Berlin located Tiergarten offered a nice atmosphere for a potluck. At this meeting, we elected the first board of the chapter:
President: Benjamin Unger
Vice President: Lia Strenge
Treasurer: Daniel Bankmann/Cornelia Gamst
Secretary: Thomas Frenzel
